US insurance giant AIG has taken Jamie Miller from Swiss Re as chief underwriting officer for North American property within its general insurance division.

At Swiss Re, Miller was managing director for property and risk specialty lines across North America.

In his new role, the seasoned underwriter will report to AIG’s chief underwriting officer for general insurance, Tom Bolt, as well as his colleague Lex Baugh who is CEO for general insurance in North America.

AIG said Miller had more than 35 years of industry expertise and experience of leading global teams.

Before joining Swiss Re in 2007, he served as chief property underwriter for XL Catlin in the Americas.

The new job will see Miller lead the strategic direction of AIG’s general insurance property operations in North America, the carrier said.

“We look forward to Jamie’s leadership, experience, and expertise as we position AIG’s property business for profitable growth,” said Bolt.

“Jamie deeply understands the opportunities and risks in the property space like few in the industry do.”

“We are pleased to have Jamie joining us at this important time,” Baugh added.

“His capabilities and understanding of the industry will be key to strengthening our property portfolio, a cornerstone of the general insurance business.”
