Enrico Bertagna has been made head of managing general agents network for commercial insurance at Zurich Insurance.

Bertagna joins from Allied World, where he has been senior vice president of business development since 2013.

He previously spent nearly two decades at Lloyd’s ultimately becoming head of Lloyd’s Southern, Eastern Europe and Africa business.

In his newly-created role at Zurich, Bertagna will be charged with building out the carrier’s MGA business.

“The MGA market represents a significant business opportunity for Zurich to access different portfolios and expertise with unique local market knowledge,” Zurich said in a statement today.

Bertagna will report to Sierra Signorelli, chief underwriting officer commercial insurance.

“This decision supports our ambition to focus on this important segment and Enrico is precisely the type of business leader we need to set up and lead this dedicated unit,” James Shea, CEO of commercial insurance said.

“He understands what it takes to profitably grow this important insurance business,” Shea added.
