Darren Carr, the unit head of marine at Axis, has left the carrier for Tokio Marine HCC, re-Insurance.com can reveal.

Carr joined Novae before it was taken over by Axis as the deputy head of marine liability in 2013.

According to his LinkedIn profile he was promoted to head up the carrier’s marine business in December 2014.

Before this he was a marine liability class underwriter at MS Amlin for a brief stint following a four-year tenure at Hiscox.

It is understood Carr will work alongside head of marine Simon Shrimpton in his new role.

Tokio Marine HCC writes physical loss or damage, machinery breakdown and collision liability for commercial tonnage, super yachts, business interruption and marine war risks.

The carrier’s Lloyd’s syndicate 4141 marine, aviation and transport division booked £12.4mn ($16.4mn) in gross written premium in 2017.

It posted a loss of £5.2mn for the year, a further deterioration from £2.6mn loss reported in 2016.

Tokio Marine HCC were not able to be reached for comment at the time of publication.
