The chief executive officer of Canopius Asia, Linus Phoon, has left the carrier, Re-Insurance can reveal.
Phoon – who also held the role of head of reinsurance for Asia at Canopius – is understood to have parted ways with Canopius earlier this week.
The executive spent over a decade with Canopius, joining in 2007 to set-up the Singapore-based team, which started writing business in 2008.
He joined from what was then Converium, where he led the Singapore branch of the carrier, which was acquired by French powerhouse Scor later that same year.
Phoon’s departure comes in the wake of the appointment of Yann Marmonier at Canopius.
Marmonier - who joined from Aspen - was brought in as head of insurance for the Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa.
Canopius Asia trades as part of the Lloyd’s Asia platform. It underwrites treaty reinsurance, predominantly excess of loss property business, on behalf of the syndicate.
In 2017, the Asia platform wrote £39.4mn in premiums, down from £46.4mn underwritten the year before.
Canopius was unavailable for comment.
