Broking house Ed has appointed James Francis and Laura Baird to its actuarial team.

Francis joins the Steve Hearn-led broker from Argo Group, where he was head of group capital modelling for over a decade. Before that he worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte.

In his new role at Ed, the broker said Francis will be charged with building out its actuarial capabilities, with a focus on risk transfer and capital management.

Along with Francis, Baird also joins Ed’s actuarial team. She joins from AmTrust where she served as an actuarial analyst since early 2017. She has previously held actuarial roles at Allied World and Travelers.

At Ed, Baird will be tasked with enhancing the broker’s analytics capabilities.

“We are delighted to have hired people of James’ and Laura’s quality and experience as we continue to build out our actuarial capabilities,” Jonathan Tillman, chief actuary at Ed said.

“Ed is investing heavily both in people and software as part of our ongoing commitment to providing expert advice and James’ and Laura’s strengths will really enhance what we can offer our clients,” he added.
