Structured reinsurance risk specialist Ronnie Carroll has resigned from Willis Re and will join rival Guy Carpenter once his notice period is complete, can reveal.

It is understood Carroll will be based in Guy Carpenter’s Dublin office and will become head of the firm’s UK and Ireland structured risk business, part of Guy Carpenter’s global strategic advisory unit.

An accountant by background, Carroll joined Willis Re in October 2016 to become head of structured solutions for the firm’s Western Europe business. Previously, he spent seven years at Hannover Re as an underwriter based in Dublin, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The move comes amidst growing demand for alternative capital optimisation products - such as loss portfolio transfers - as (re)insurers look to reduce their regulatory capital requirements on books of business.

The news is also the latest high profile move between the top-tier reinsurance broking houses in the UK and Ireland, which included Aon’s recent poaching of Guy Carpenter’s EMEA strategic advisory head Eric Paire, who also a specialist in advising on insurers’ risk capital structures.

More recently, Guy Carpenter has hired Richard Carver from rival Aon to become managing director in the firm’s UK non-marine division.

Guy Carpenter was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.
