Markel has hired Simon Barrett to take over as finance director for its international operations, which include its Lloyd’s Syndicate 3000.
He joins Markel from Hamilton at Lloyd’s where he was chief financial officer.
Barrett will take the seat left vacant by Jeremy Noble who is set to become chief financial officer of the international subsidiary’s parent company Markel Corporation.
He has held a number of finance director roles across the market, including stints at XL Group’s UK subsidiary, which includes its Lloyd’s business.
The move is still subject to regulatory approval and will see the executive join Markel’s international executive committee.
Noble said: “Simon’s deep market experience, commercial mindset, fresh perspective and history of working with organisations experiencing change, will be invaluable as we navigate the challenges of current market conditions, continue to grow the Markel International franchise and contribute to Markel’s efforts to build one of the world’s great companies.”
