Wholesaler Price Forbes has grown its power, utilities and nuclear team with a trio of hires including former Marsh managing director Simon Howell, re-Insurance.com understands.

Howell started at the intermediary last month, according to his LinkedIn profile, but he is expected to be joined by James Williams from JLT and Miller’s Charlotte Higgins.

At Marsh, Howell led the global wholesale placement team for power and utilities with a specialty in property. He was also on the division’s executive team. He had been with the broker for more than a decade.

But the big hitter is understood to have been let go amid a redundancy round in December that has been followed by at least two other waves of employee consultations, after Boston Consulting Group was appointed to advise on staff cuts.

At Price Forbes, Howell has been named executive director to lead the power team, alongside Robert Smith.

Williams joined from JLT, where he has worked for seven years, most recently as a partner in the power business.

His LinkedIn profile touted skills in liability and political violence insurance. Before joining JLT, Williams had a short spell at Marsh as a vice president, after working at Aon for almost seven years.

Higgins has been at Miller as a broker for two years, after almost three years at marine broker SSL, which was recently acquired by JC Flowers.

In February, Price Forbes energy exec James Chicken left to launch an energy insurance division at rival broker BMS. He was joined shortly after by his fellow former Price Forbes colleague Charlie Bowring.
